Home again, home again...
Aug. 2nd, 2011 02:32 amWow, I think that the ride home from Otakon was more memorable than anything on the weekend itself. Sadly, this is due to how bad it was.
I suppose it would not be fair to label it as the "worst trip ever" (mind, Otakon itself was a blast, speaking strictly about going home), but it was a bit unpleasant.
It began with Nadia and I wandering around for the better part of an hour, following many conflicting directions to find the bus we needed to get out to the mall where the Megabus would pick us up. Amazingly, we made it there before the Megabus arrived, but not with enough time to get Chick-fil-a as I had hoped. Sigh, maybe next year.
But at least one enterprising cabbie stopped by with a cooler full of drinks in his trunk, while another guy had chips. They could have really gouged us, but the prices were fair.
The bus arrives, and I'm pretty sure the driver could not have given a damn about anything. He was quite content to take off while Nadia and I were trying to find seats, as two which were together in the back were folded up for some reason, and another person had their cosplay costume taking up another seat. He also left our rest stop twenty minutes early, while a lady was carrying a cup of something and trying to get to her seat (I was trying to get out of the way, after putting something up in the overhead compartment).
On top of all that? The wifi wasn't working, eliminating a key point of keeping myself busy along the way back. I found out later from the replacement driver that apparently, these buses uses cell batteries, which make them subject to roaming charges. So an American bus like we were on should have worked from Washington to Buffalo, but didn't. Meanwhile, Canadian buses with wifi would only work within Canada.
...and yet, once we got into Canada? The wifi began working. Go figure.
After leaving the hotel at about 10, we've only arrived home about an hour ago. At least customs was easy, barring the long line of buses going through ahead of us...
Topping it all off, Rogers has cut off our cell phones, despite our having paid the agreed-upon amount in the way they insisted upon before leaving. The blasted accounts department is closed right now, and I can't get to my voice mail, where I have messages/numbers from the VP of the company, who I think was calling about the crappy cable I've had to deal with.
At least
kiapurity's package was waiting here for us, even if none of our checks were. Sigh...
On the upside, Nadia loves the present the package helped complete, and she should have some pics up later, I hope.
Edit: And my apologies for the negativity; it's late and I just want to vent. I'll try to bring the positive later; ideally, with pictures.
