Bleh, what a weekend.

Yesterday, I finally find a copy of Super Mario Land 2 at the local Cash Converters. Problem is, they had it bundled with a Game Boy Color and copies of Tennis and Baseball, and refused to sell it separately.

After getting home, it dawns on me that I could buy the bundle, take the game, and sell the rest back to them. So I put that plan into action today, and fortunately for me, the bundle was still there.

The whole set was $25, which in itself is pretty good, but more than I can really afford, nor do I need the extra stuff (I'll get Tennis and Baseball some other day, perhaps). Selling the extras back, I get $11. I was hoping to come out at about $10 for SML2, but the difference wasn't so much I'd complain.

I finally get it home, and I cannot get the blasted thing to work on either my Super Game Boy or my Game Boy Advance SP. Tried a number of things, and it just won't work (despite being told they tested it before taking it in).

Here's the breakdown of what worked and what didn't:

- Super NES, Super Game Boy, and Super Mario Land 2: No

- Super NES, SGB, and Mega Man 5: No (though it has before)

- Super NES and Gradius III: No (though it has before as well)

- Super NES and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters (random grab off the shelf): Yes

- Game Boy Advance SP and Mega Man Zero 3: Yes

- GBASP and Mega Man 5: Yes

- GBASP and Super Mario Land 2: No

Incidentally, the Super Game Boy itself seems to work fine. Red even got it to stop doing the red X, and it booted to the point that I could change borders, etc., but the games themselves refused to start.

So, I'm not sure what exactly works and what doesn't work, though I get the feeling the bedroom (where we have some older systems hooked up) is going to be reeking of rubbing alcohol soon enough.

But if anyone has any suggestions (or thinks this is worth its own thread), I'd love to hear them. Particularly how one might clean the connectors in the Super NES without a cleaning kit...

All I want is to take Mario through his corrupted theme park. Is that so wrong?
