Some of you may recall my hands-on experience with Kid Icarus: Uprising, and the unpleasantness which unfortunately accompanied it.

Since then, I've tried to draw some attention to the issue, but to no avail. I contacted Nintendo of Canada, with which I have at least one contact, in the hopes maybe they could pass along the concerns of myself and others who share them. I'm not sure that it will be passed along, though it seems the developers are working in secret and we have not seen everything yet.

I talk about it a little more at length here, and frankly, I'm still a little worried about the game. On the one hand, it is still early, so maybe it's too soon to react this way? On the other, might it be too late if we just wait it out?

Strictly speaking, the controls for a game can continue to be refined up through the Beta phase. But it depends on how receptive the developer is. It's not like these things are unknown problems to Nintendo; I just don't think they believe it's a big enough deal to fix them.

Aye, and that's precisely what I would like to convey to them. Control is one of the biggest deals to me when it comes to games, it turns out, and I'm guessing in a case like this, it matters to others, too.

I can tolerate some of the decisions they've made on that front; others, less so.

Yeah, good luck with that. Nintendo is a pretty stubborn company, which for the most part isn't a bad thing. They more often than not do things right. But when they don't, you just have to deal with it.

At E3 last year I tried out Other M, and they were asking everyone what they thought after playing. I told the rep it played ok, but the story cinematics seemed largely drawn out and uninteresting. He seemed kind of flustered and just said "Well, you have to start somewhere!" What the hell does that even mean?

Yeah, I know it's pretty much shouting against the wind. Still, as noted, it is Sakurai who is designing this, and he's practically Nintendo's King of Fanservice... I like to think if he at least heard the cries, maybe there would be a chance.
