Real-life ranting
Dec. 2nd, 2004 01:41 amI hate moving. It gives me a sense of paranoia.
Seems the last two times I've moved, stuff has come up... missing. Dare I even say, stolen. And I really am not sure who could be to blame. Maybe it was the movers. Maybe it was those kids upstairs. Or maybe there's an outside chance that we just misplaced it, though that's unlikely, given how many times I've torn the places apart looking for this stuff, to say nothing of it not turning up during the most recent move.
Here's just a small sampling of what's gone missing.
Big honkin' Sonic Adventure figure. 11" tall, this is one of the first things I ever got from my then-future wife, and the first upon meeting her. So definitely a large bit of sentimental value there that just really can't be replaced. And I'm a big Sonic fan, and I just loved this figure. It just seemed to get everything so very perfect. And it looked so good standing proudly next to my similarly-sized half-plastic, half-plush Mario.
Super Mario 64. This one was actually Red's, and she hates having lost it, because she did what even I could not... she got all 120 fucking stars in that thing. So it's really more the achievement that's lost than the actual game... which still sucks. She has made it VERY clear that she won't go through that clock tower again. So I guess seeing Yoshi in there again won't be happening anytime soon.
Ironically, the box is still ok.
Super Smash Bros. Melee. Definitely one of my top favorite GameCube games, and my first... so more sentimental value there. Fortunately for me, our accomplishments are on a memory card, something SM64 didn't have the benefit of. And even more fortunate for me, good ol'
storm_wolfe managed to snag me a replacement copy on our last trip down. And so the smashing continued...
Funny thing there. We still had the box, right? But I could have SWORN we/I had played it after we moved to the old place. Which makes me wonder...
Incidently, I'm sure Sonic made it to the new place, as well.
Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold, a part of the Street Fighter Collection from the first Playstation. Definitely my favorite version of SFA(though the never-seen-again Ryu & Ken Vs. Bison option in the original was great), I especially loved turning on permanent Super Moves. Definitely one of my favorites, even over SFA3.
Weird thing. Still have the case, AND still have Super Street Fighter 2/Turbo... just my luck. The one that's the most over-reproduced is the one I managed to keep. Then again, I suppose a methodical thief might realize that and make his choice accordingly. Personally, I hope s/he grabbed the wrong one, and have been disappointed. Just because.
So, I've come not to trust movers... and instead opted to get Red's brother and a friend of his to help us out. And while I feel confident in that they didn't take any of our possessions, unfortunate for us was that they had a major constraint on available time, and weren't able to really specifically place anything in the new apartment. Also unfortunate is the size... so moving things around here has been more like an extra-elaborate Rubix Cube that we've yet to have proper time and energy to solve... we only earlier were able to get the new TV(fucker is HEAVY) into the bedroom, so hopefully we can play games again now, between the screen going wonky on us.
All in all, though, I'm enjoying the apartment life... nice to not have to worry about the possibility of corrupt landlords sneaking in to get our stuff... actually, that IS a possibility, one I'll deal with in due time. Gives me good motivation to someday get a place that's truly OURS, though.
Dante seems to like the new place well enough, as well... he's lucky, though, he's small enough to make the most of anyplace we go. His favorite spots seem to be the windowsills(sp), though.
Parking is great, it's an underground garage... no worries of the elements getting in my way. And the commute to work, despite our actually being farther from my place of employ, is much shorter. So that's a nice plus. School has to be a less direct route, but that's not too big a problem... especially with only two classes left, one of which is at a local TV station. So the problem is actually practically irrelevant, at least until next semester... provided there are enough people for a class, a problem in its own right.
Speaking of school, I missed last week's class, had to go in practically blind to the script this week, and still pretty much nailed it. Teach seemed impressed/pleased, with definite approval and a handshake to boot. So I like to think that means I'm pretty good at this stuff... here's hoping.
And I think that's enough writing about stuff I should've written about long ago. Maybe next time I can try and recall our evening with Kevin Smith. Funny, funny man.
